NEXT TO YOU
Mixed Reality Walk
by Marika Hedemyr
FREE ADMISSION - OPEN EVERY DAY 9 am - 7 pm
Where are you going? How do you relate to the person next to you?
A smartphone in your hand can open up new worlds and connections, and also create isolated bubbles and segmented societies. In Next to You at Korsvägen, Hedemyr explores this paradox through an interactive walk where your choice of direction is crucial for the course of events. The work remixes the city's visions of Göteborg as a destination with quotes from Vilhelm Moberg's novel series The Emigrants, and facts about Korsvägen. A private mixed-reality situation where the experience of the place and the passers-by is intensified.
In which direction are you heading? Get ready!

About Marika Hedemyr
and Next To You
Marika Hedemyr is a Swedish artist working across choreography and public art, exploring emotional and political relations between people and places.
Her work is known for twisting reality into precise and humorous everyday situations. It has been presented at Dansens Hus Stockholm, Röda Sten Konsthall, Bibliotheca Alexandrina Egypt, Yokohama Dance Collection Japan, among others. In 2016 Hedemyr co-edited Dansbaren—The Mob Without Flash (Dansbyrån, 2016), a publication dedicated to critical thinking within choreography and self-organisation.
Since 2017 Hedemyr is enrolled for a PhD in Interaction Design at the School of Arts and Culture (K3) at Malmö University, Sweden.
Hedemyr’s basic areas of research forming Next To You at Korsvägen are:
What can performative art in public space be, beyond the performer? She expands the concept of choreography and transmedia storytelling by exploring how choreography, direction and dramaturgy are created in the "eyes of the beholder" as an embodied experience in public situations.
What are the potentials of the space between a smartphone and its user in a public space? How can it become a place for action, ethical negotiations and new forms of expressions? How can augmented and mixed reality technologies be used for expanded forms of “storytelling”, creating situations of critical reflection?
